1 What you need to check status
Before you look anything up, have these ready:
- your application or reference number;
- the email address used on the application;
- your passport number, in case you are asked to confirm identity.
If you cannot find your reference number, check the confirmation email you received after submitting — it is usually there.
2 What the status stages mean
Most applications move through a small set of states. Exact wording varies, but the pattern is generally:
- Submitted / received — your application is in the queue and has not yet been reviewed.
- In process / under review — an officer or system is checking your details and documents.
- Approved / issued — your authorization is ready; download and keep a copy.
- Needs attention / rejected — something requires action or the application was not approved.
Seeing "in process" for a while is normal and does not by itself mean a problem.
3 If your status stays pending
A file can sit longer than expected for ordinary reasons: peak application volume, a detail that needs manual review, or an upload that was unclear. Before assuming the worst:
- Recheck that the details you are entering to look up status match your application exactly.
- Give standard processing time a reasonable buffer before escalating.
- If it runs well beyond the usual range, contact support with your reference number rather than submitting a duplicate application.
4 A note on timing
Do not leave status checks until the day before departure. Track early so that if something needs correcting or resubmitting, you still have time to act before you travel.
